Dunya News

Senate has been informed issue of POWs during 65, 71 wars had been constantly raised with India.

But India also has been denying that he is in possession of any war of prisoner. In the Thursday question hour session, state minister for foreign affairs, Malik Ammad Khan informed the Upper House that the issue of five missing Army officers and eighteen soldiers during ’65 and ’71 wars had been raised with the Indian government, which has constantly denied any presence of these POWs in any of Indian jails. Malik Ammad also said that besides these missing POWs there were 453 Pakistani prisoners, including 29 fishermen languishing in Indian jails. The Senate was also informed that a Pakistani diplomat Ghulam Rasool Baloch had issued Pakistani visas to countless Indian nationals beyond legal limits, and was awarded imprisonment and fine, besides being terminated from his appointment as ambassador to Vietnam by a NAB (National Accountability Bureau) court in April 2010.Senators insisted that currently there were more than 360 prisoners, languishing in Indian jails, for whom no credible efforts were being carried out by an indifferent Pakistani High Commissioner to India and his staff members. Most of senators including Rafiq Rajvana, Zahid Khan, Farah Aaqil, Zafar Ali Shah, and Col (Retd) Tahir Mashadhi demanded that an ineffectual High Commission in India should be recalled over its failure to address relevant issues. They also stressed for (alternately) switching over to Geneva Convention regime, and Red Crescent for tackling the sordid issue of recovery of missing POWs, while expressing their overall deep dissatisfaction over the issue of missing POWs, blaming foreign ministry for its lax, ineffective and indifferent attitude.Replying to a question, Nawabzada Malik Ammad Khan also informed the Senate that currently six Pakistani missions were operating in American cities of Washington Capitol District, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, and the UN.He also said that a total of 73 Pakistani officials were deployed in Pakistan’s USA embassy.Replying to a demand of list of Pakistani embassy officials by senator Talha Mahmood, the state minister for foreign minister said that senators often pressed for job extensions of their favorite embassy personnel; over which Talha demanded names of such imprudent senators, otherwise (Malik Ammad should) take (his) statement back. The Senate was also briefed that such non-career ambassadors as Salman Bashir, Sherry Rehman, Khalid Khattak, Wajid Shams ul Hassan, Abdullah Haroon, Jamil-A-Khan, Shafqat Saeed, Masood Khan, Lt .Gen (Retd) Masood Aslam, Fauzia Abbas, Nawabzada Aman ullah Khan Raessani, Ahmad Nawaz Mela, Major Gen (r) Syed Khalid Ameer Jaffrey, and Major Gen (r) Ejaz Hussain Awan were appointed in 14 countries, worldwide. It was also divulged that non-carrier ambassadors were appointed entirely by federal government’s prerogative, and had no fix regulations as such, while many were also on extensions.Senator Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah criticized absence of any credible regulations for appointment of non-carrier ambassadors.
