Summary 16th NAM summit: President says all issues should be resolved with unity dialogue and cooperation.
President Asif Ali Zardari has said the world is facing enormous challenges and historic changes and there is need of unity to cope with these.Addressing the 16th Non Aligned Summit in Teheran Friday‚ he pointed out that the power of the NAM lies in its unity.The president said all the complicated issues should be resolved with unity‚ dialogue and cooperation.The Non Aligned Movement represents 50 percent population of the world and the NAMs role would be significant in coming days, he saidHe welcomed the offer of Republic of Venezuela to host the next NAM summit. He said Pakistan supports a peaceful solution of regional disputes.The president said Pakistan and Iran enjoy deep historical and cultural relations and ties will be strengthened further, adding his country wants to further strengthen ties with neighborly Iran.He congratulated Iran on its election for three years as chairman of Non Aligned Movement.War against terrorism is a complicated issue and Pakistan has suffered the loss of 40 thousands people and 80 billion dollars in this war, Zardari said.He said Pakistan and Afghanistan have suffered greatly from prolonged Afghan conflict, adding Islamabad was fully committed to durable peace in Afghanistan as Pakistan wants a stable‚ peaceful and prosperous neighborhood.The President said Pakistan will cooperate with the Afghan leadership for the resolution of the three decade old problem.He said International community besides focusing of withdrawal from Afghanistan should also take steps for repatriation of Afghan Refugees.President Zardari expressed serious concerns over the situation in Syria. He said Syrian government should respect the aspiration of its people.On the Iran nuclear issue the President said a diplomatic solution to the issue should be sought.He said regulations and provisions for disarmament should be impartial for all the countries. He said Pakistan wants a negotiated settlement of all issues including Kashmir.He said the NAM enjoys moral strength since its very inception. The movement will play more significant role to cope with the changes and challenges being faced by the world.President said Pakistan is a peace loving country and wants peaceful‚ prosper and stable neighbours.Pakistan is fully committed to promote stability in the region. President said that we should reiterate to abide by and implement the UN charter.
