Summary Defence analysts have expressed diverse opinions about Kamra airbase attack.
Talking to media, defence analyst Air Marshall (Retd.) Shahid Latif has said less damage was done as a result of the attack because the security was on high alert.On the other hand, Air Commodore (Retd.) Jamal Hussain was of the view that the incident is a question mark on the performance of national intelligence agencies.Defence analyst, Hassan Askari observed Pakistan needs a long-term policy to deal with the menace of terrorism.According to experts, the security of military installations and sensitive locations should be intensified.BBC says keeping in view the positions taken by the attackers to launch the assault, the possibility cannot be set aside that they had ample knowledge about the place where the sensitive planes were stationed.It merits mentioning here that Kamra airbase have been attacked in the past too, and in October 2009, a suicide bomber blew himself at the check post outside the airbase, killing two air force personnel and six citizens.In May 2011, extremists attacked Mehran airbase in Karachi and after a 17 hours long operation killed three terrorists while ten personnel were also martyred.Before this, in 2009, terrorists assaulted General Headquarters, Rawalpindi and the 22-hours long operation took 22 lives.
