Summary Foreign Office says Pakistan and United States are discussing several proposals to normalize ties.
Foreign Office Spokesman Moazzam Ahmad Khan stated this while replying to a question at the weekly news briefing in Islamabad on Friday.Without giving specific details the spokesman said the visit of the ISI chief to the United States was very productive.To a question he dismissed the impression that the United States released two hundred and eighty million dollars for power sector development in Pakistan in return for Islamabads commitment not to pursue Iran gas pipeline project.He said the United States has released the amount for Mangla Dam and Kurram Tangi Dam under Kerry-Lugar Bill and this has nothing to do with Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project.Replying to another question the spokesman said Pakistan is deeply concerned about deteriorating situation in Syria.He said Pakistan wants a peaceful resolution of the issue based on principles of non-intervention‚ non-interference and non-use of coersive measures or force.The Spokesman said Pakistan has concerns over the plight of Muslims in Myanmar and President Asif Ali Zardari has written a letter to his Myanmar counterpart expressing Pakistans concern over the issue. He has urged Myanmar Government to take urgent corrective measures.About visit of the Chairman Afghan High Peace Council Salahuddin Rabbani‚ he said Pakistan and Afghan Governments are firming up dates that are mutually convenient.The spokesman clarified that there was no proposal to hand over Mulla Bardar to Afganistan.
