Summary Punjab government has started reflecting over a permanent formula of power distribution.
It has been decided by a Special Committee for Joint Interest Council on the pattern of the NFC and Agreement for Distribution of Water. Provinces may seek the right for purchase of power directly.As per details, the Punjab government is pondering over putting forward two recommendations to the committee formed for finding solution to the loadshedding crisis.According to the first recommendation of the provincial government, supply as well as loadshedding should be made in accordance with a permanent formula for which a special agreement for distribution of power among provinces should be signed. More over an authority on the pattern of IRSA should be formed.According to second recommendation, the distribution of power should be handed over to the provinces which may be able to distribute among consumers after purchasing from private sectors and Federal Power Generation Companies.Names of chief secretary Nasir Mehmood Khosa, ex-chairman WAPDA Tariq Hamid, ex-MD PEPCO Munawwar Basir and power sector expert Nadeem Bahir are under consideration for representing Punjab.It is worthy of note that the power is being distributed among provinces under 2006 formula when there was no concept of loadshedding in the country.
