Summary Chief justice says none of the province opposed parliament's legislative authority.
A five-member bench of Supreme Court (SC), comprising Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Shakirullah Jan, Justice Khilji Arif Hussain, Justice Jawad S Khawaja and Justice Tassadduq Hussain Jilani resumed hearing of more than 18 identical petitions challenging the Contempt of Court Act 2012 on Monday.One of the petitioners, Shahid Orakzai, said that the basic purpose of contempt law was to direct every individual to respect judiciary, adding that the new law has been imposed on provincial governments which was a violation of the constitution.Responding to the argument of the petitioner, Justice Khilji Arif Hussain said that all the four provinces had accepted the law.Adding remarks, Chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said none of the province opposed parliaments legislative authority. He saida man who has court verdict against him, turns against judiciary.
