Govt responsible to secure Balochistan: CJ

The SC ordered the provincial government and FC to sumit a detailed report of missing persons.

A three-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry resumed the hearing of Balochistan unrest case in Quetta Registry.Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary during his remarks said the government must secure right to life of the people of Balochistan.He said the government should not only develop Balochistan but should deal with the handful of terrorists with an iron hand.He inquired why the law-enforcement agencies are helpless before the few terrorists.The CJ asked the provincial interior secretary how many people were killed during the months of June and July this year.The court was told 101 targeted killings were reported during June, including murder of 86 common people and that of 15 policemen.The apex court was also told that three miscreants from Lashkar-e-Mehdi were arrested who confessed to killing of 24 religious scholars.CCPO Quetta said that Sunni and Shiite Ulemas hailing from Punjab and Sindh were being targeted in Quetta.It was claimed before the court that 56 target killers were also slain in several incidents.It was maintained that funds for forensic laboratory has been allocated in the provincial budget for the fiscal year 2012-13.The Supreme Court asked what was the net-result of all these proceedings.CCPO Quetta replied they are willing to take every possible step for securing the life and property of the people, and the coming events will reflect that.He claimed they are working in a professional manner and will emerge successful soon.On the other hand, Chief Secretary Balochistan confessed law and order situation in the province is unsatisfactory, adding that they are confronting a war-like situation.The chief secretary said they have to deal with sectarian violence and battle with banned organizations.Expressing vulnerability of the police and Levis force, he said they do not have enough resources to chase the terrorists when they attack a police station.He said terrorists threaten the local administration in Washak and Awaraan.At this, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary remarked he appreciates the sacrifices of police and Levis.He also suggested that Frontier Corps should be utilized on every occasion as it has the requisites for tackling the miscreants.With regard to banned organizations, the court said had the government taken steps to stop funding of these organizations by some elements, much of the mess would have been avoided.On one occasion, the Chief Justice also asked about the proceedings in the murder case of nephew of Chief Minister of Balochistan, and said every murder case should be as important in the eyes of the police as that of Mir Haqmal.About the case, it was mentioned that the police has no clue to this case and it seems the murder was a result of family rivalry.However, the court ordered the case has to be dealt with in a professional way.Justice Khilji Arif Hussain was of the view that every murderer flees away without being caught.He asked about the progress in investigation of the killings of 60 people.The Chief Justice questioned about the killings in Turbat and the police officials said those people illegally going to Iran.The CJP noted the buses carrying pilgrims were attacked thrice.He said the explanations given by the authorities are not enough and solid results are needed in this regard.Secretary Interior told the court that after the Mastung killings, 1500 vehicles were safely transported to their destinations.
