Pakistan assures IMF on bringing Mini Budget

Pakistan has assured IMF that it can bring a mini budget to achieve the revenue target besides imposing additional taxes through a presidential ordinance. Sources in the Finance Ministry revealed that IMF in its negotiations with Pakistan last month had informed it would be difficult for the Pakistani government to achieve tax target of Rs 10.379 trillion in the current circumstances. The government on this had assured that it could impose additional taxes and take back the relaxation given under income and sales tax head, the sources added. According to the government, approval of the new taxes would be taken along with the approval of the supplementary budget as it would be difficult to get the approval of the new taxes immediately. Sources further told that the government had also decided to cut the developmental budget.
