Summary Supreme Court rejected plea to put Malik Riazs name on ECL.
A three-member special bench of the apex court headed by Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan conducted the hearing of the contempt case against real estate tycoon Malik Riaz.The Supreme Court ordered Malik Riaz not to issue any statement against judiciary in the media and gave him seven days to hire a counsel in the case.Malik Riaz expressed his commitment that the apex court would not hear any complaint from him. He told court that he is contacting various high-profile lawyers including Aitzaz Ahsan but failed to succeed in hiring one.The court, however, gave him seven days to appoint a lawyer.The bench also rejected a petition demanding for Hussains name to be included in the Exit Control List (ECL), saying his behaviour did not indicate that he would run away.The Supreme Court yesterday initiated suo motu contempt proceedings against Malik Riaz after he levelled several allegations against the Chief Justice of Pakistan during a press conference on Tuesday.The bench issued him a show cause notice and directed him to personally appear in the court.In a short order, the bench said Hussain had ridiculed, scandalised, insulted and maligned the judiciary.The remarks were an attempt to spread hatred against judges and to undermine the authority of judiciary, the bench said.The case hearing has been adjourned till June 21.
