Summary US Ambassador Munter says USAID would spend Rs 450 million on developmental projects in AJK.
He said this during his visit to AJK, Munter held meeting with delegation of non-governmental organizations and a group of local people in Muzaffarabad.“Today’s visit is an important opportunity for me to renew the friendship of the people of the United States with the people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, we demonstrated with our support to AJK following the devastating 2005 earthquake, and as we continue to show with our assistance today, the United States has an enduring partnership with this region.” Ambassador Munter said. “He said that the US would continue its finical support to the organizations involved in several development projects, adding that people are taking interest in these projects.“To bring change in the finical condition of people, Need of the time is to speed up work in deferent sectors of the society, including Education, health and growth of basic infrastructure”, Cameron Munter said.The Ambassador was briefed that the U.S. has funded several projects in the region that were designed by community members to meet pressing local needs.Projects include: rebuilt roads to link remote communities, flood control structures and micro hydro electric power stations to power small towns, and health camps to improve access to health care in remote areas. The Ambassador was informed that as many as 38 water reservoir were setup on rivers and four safety walls were setup in Union council Danna while 190 Kanals of land were allocated to around 190 peasants in Union Council Kariata with the finical assistance of the USAID.The U.S. Ambassador’s Fund and the USAID Small Grants program have funded these and other grants awarded to communities in AJK.In Bagh District, Ambassador Munter met students and school leadership from the Government Boy’s High School and the Government Girl’s High School in Arja. The U.S. funded the reconstruction of both schools following the 2005 earthquake. Ambassador Munter toured the Boy’s school and emphasized that the U.S. is committed to improving access to quality education in the region.Meanwhile, Ambassador Munter called on AJK Prime Minister Chaudhry Abdul Majid in the Prime Minster Secitariat and disused current issues in the region and developmental projects of the USAID.
