Haqqani to challenge commission report

Summary Those who endorsed military dictators cannot judge my patriotism. Haqqani said.

Pakistans former ambassador to the US, Husain Haqqani, today dismissed the memo commissions report claiming that the findings were made public to divert the attention from from ‘more embarrassing developments’.“One-sided proceedings of Commission that refused to hear me will be challenged by my lawyers”, Haqqani said.Claiming that he had nothing to do with the memo, Haqqani said the Commission might have come to a different conclusion if it had heard him out, which it did not.The entire proceeding reflected the political machination of ideological elements including the judiciary and had little to do with fact finding, he added. The Commission has based its findings on the claims of one man, a foreigner, and dubious records presented by him, which were reinforced by an equally dubious exercise termed as forensics, he said.Haqqani said that while he continues to respect the institution of the judiciary, he refuses to let his patriotism be judged by those who had endorsed military dictators and had even given them the right to amend the constitution.
