The 13th round of defence secretary level talks to resolve the issues of Siachen and Sirkreek.Indian secretary for defence, Shashikanth Sharma represented the Indian side while secretary defence, Nargis Sethi led the Pakistan side alongwith military personnel.Sources told Online that the two countries have prepared recommendations for retreating forces from Siachen. The two defence secretaries would hand over these recommendations to their respective governments.The talks were held in a welcome environment, sources said.Indian Secretary of Defence Shashikanth Sharma said though his country was in favor of withdrawing its forces from Siachen, any decision in this regard would be taken in India’s best national interestHe also expressed his grievance over the incident of April 7 in which Pakistani soldiers were hit and buried under the avalanche at Siachen.On the occasion, Nargis Sethi gave suggestions for materializing the withdrawal of forces from Siachen.Sources further said the talks would continue today (Tuesday) in which Siachen would come under discussion whereas a joint declaration would also be issued at the conclusion of the negotiations.At the end of Monday’s session, Indian defence secretary held a meeting with federal defence minister, Syed Naveed Qamar, in which matter related to defence and Pak-India talks were discussed.
