Ephedrine case: Ex-DG health remanded in 4-day custody

Summary A Rawalpindi court remanded former DG health for four days in custody in Ephedrine case.

The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) arrested former director-general health Asad Hafeez on Friday and presented him in local magistrates court.It should be mentioned here that Asad Hafeez was called for interrogation in the light of statements by PM Gilanis Principal Secretary Khushnood Lashari and other officers.Counsel for Hafeez said that his client has many a times recorded his statement before the investigation team, however, no evidence was found against him.On the other hand, government counsel maintained that the case probe has been ordered by the Supreme Court, thus, remand of the accused is necessary in this regard and if proved innocent, his name will be removed from the case.Talking to media after case hearing, former DG health said he has been detained over allegations of illegally allotting the quota of ephedrine for local use which was meant for exporting.
