Summary PM Gilani has not filed an appeal against Supreme Court's verdict in contempt case.
Addressing media, Aitzaz Ahsan, counsel of PM, said the decision was taken after the ruling of NA Speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza.He further told that Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani finally decided not to appeal after a consultation with senior leaders and president Asif Ali Zardari.According to sources, the matter of PM’s eligibility has been closed after the ruling of NA speaker Fehmida Mirza.Policitxcal observers say the gocerment doesn’t want to reopen the case after filing the appeal against the verdict.Earlier, Dr Fehmida Mirza decided not to send a reference to the Election Commission seeking the disqualification of the prime minister.It is also important to mention that a seven-member bench convicted PM Gilani in comtempt case for not writing to Swiss officials to reopen cases against President Zardari and issued him a sentence that lasted for 30 seconds on April 26.
