Thousands of sugar bags have been recovered and hundreds of go-downs sealed after a crackdown against sugar hoarders in the various parts of the country. On the other hand Federal Minister for Industry and Production Manzoor Watto says that more sugar will be imported and brought into the market. In crackdown against sugar hoarders in Attock, police recovered 6,500 sugar bags and arrested eight people. In Rajanpur 1,200 sugar bags were recovered from two trucks while in Sargodha 19,000 sugar bags were seized and three go-downs sealed. The sugar price is still above Rs 50 despite the countrywide crackdown against hoarders. In Sargodha sugar is being sold at Rs 56 to 57 per kg. In Peshawar the sugar is being sold at Rs 53 in the open market. Sugar Mills Association has called an emergency session on Monday to devise a strategy against the government raids. Mr Watto said that the sugar prices at the utility stores would be Rs 38 per kg and 0.4 million ton sugar would be provided to the markets and utility stores during Ramadan.
