Railway employees deprived of GP fund, arrears

The amount allocated for Railways employees arrears could not be released despite PMs assurance.

According to Dunya News, about Rs 2.70 billion had been allocated last month for the payment of GP fund and arrears to the retired Pakistan Railways employees. But the grant has not been released due to bureaucratic delays and the employees are facing problems.A retired Railways employee told the Dunya News that he retired on September 2010 but no gratuity or even his GP fund has been paid. He said that he filed many applications but no action was taken.A widow of a retired employee said that her husband died on January 08, 2010 during his service. But no compensation has been paid to her, adding that she has changed her daughter’s marriage date due to nonpayment of GP fund and gratuity. She said that she was not clear as to when would she receive her arrears.It is pertinent to mention here that Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani has granted Rs 2.70 billion for Railways employees’ arrears, but the Finance Ministry has not released the amount as yet.
