Gaza talks explore alternative to Israeli troops on Gaza-Egypt border

Israeli and Egyptian ceasefire negotiators are in talks about an electronic surveillance system along the border between Gaza and Egypt that could allow Israel to pull back its troops from the area if a ceasefire is agreed, Reuters reports according to two Egyptian sources and a third source familiar with the matter.

The question of whether Israeli forces stay on the border is one of the issues blocking a potential ceasefire deal because both Hamas and Egypt, a mediator in the talks, are opposed to Israel keeping its forces there.

US-UK targets Yemen’s Hodeidah airport with three air strikes: Houthi media

Yemen’s Houthi-controlled Hodeidah International Airport has been struck three times today by US and British aircraft.

That’s according the Al Masirah television channel that is controlled by the Iran-aligned armed group. The rebels control much of Yemen after nearly a decade of war against a Western-backed and Saudi-led coalition.

The group has launched repeated drone and missile attacks on ships in the Red Sea, the Bab al-Mandeb strait and the Gulf of Aden since November last year, demanding that Israel end its war on Gaza.

Since January, the United States and the United Kingdom have launched retaliatory strikes on Houthi targets in Yemen, aiming to degrade their ability to attack the vital waterways. But the attacks have done little to deter the Houthis.

Gaza starves while US-built aid pier scrapped

“Throughout the conception, construction and brief operation” of the floating pier off the Gaza coast, routes into Gaza were available that could have provided essential humanitarian aid to the starving population, Al Jazeera reported.

However, the United States didn’t use its influence to press Israel to open these routes for the safe transportation of aid.

More than 120,000 residents of Shujayea are homeless as 85 percent buildings in this area are now uninhabitable.

GAZA (AFP) - Rescue and ambulance crews have retrieved more than 60 bodies from under the rubble in the Shejaiya neighborhood in Gaza City after Israeli troops withdrew from the area, the Civil Defense Agency said on Thursday.

Just hours after the two-week offensive on Gaza City's Shujaiya district ended, Palestinians had already found 60 bodies as they picked through the piles of concrete and dust left behind, officials in Hamas-run Gaza said Thursday.
