Summary

Close to 600 musicians broke the world record for the largest number of drummers playing the same beat at the same time. A total of 582 drummers - some of which were celebrity musicians - played together at Birminghams National Indoor Arena. The record attempt was to raise money and awareness for Multiple Sclerosis. This is for Stick It To MS. This is a charity that was only launched in January by two chaps Craig Lover and Rick Prince and already theyve already raised 20,000 GBP for multiple sclerosis research. And with whats been going on today and whats been going on this weekend, probably another 50,000 can be added to that. Theres 600 people in this room that will play the same beat the same time over on that stage over there, said drummer Ian Danter. He and Don Power, former drummer of 70s rock band Slade, joked that while other bandmates got all the fame, they deserved more glory. Drummers were a kindred spirit because guitarist have all the limelight. Vocalists dont have to carry any gear, said Dunter. Were the backbone, said Power. Were the goalkeeper of the group. We stick together like kindred spirits. This is like a classic car show for the deaf because everyone walks around and looks at everybody elses kit, said Dunter. The drummers smashed the previous world record of 533 set in the United States.
