In Venezuela, beauty pageants are serious business, and here theres no crown more important than the jewel-studded tiara worn by Miss Venezuela. One of these twenty-four candidates will put that crown on Saturday (October 14), winning the chance to compete for the MIss Universe title.The women, chosen from different provinces, paraded before the press on Friday (October 14) as they put the finishing touches on talent routines.Osmel Sousa, the Miss Venezuela president, said people could expect the contests typical glamour.In general, I think its going to be a nice show. As far as what I take care of and as far as the candidates, its going to be as glamorous and spectacular as always, he said.Sousa said the candidates had already been through a selection process and any of the 24 could win.The candidates this year were chosen between 300 girls that came by our Miss Venezuela headquarters. We did a lot of selection, what we call filters, and got them down to 100, and then from 100 to 60, from 60 to 40, and from 40 to the 24 that our left to compete. Of course all of them have something that makes them the queen, he said.Famous for its beauty queens, Venezuela has won six Miss Universe titles, trailing only the United States with seven.The South American nation had produced five previous Miss Universe winners in 1979, 1981, 1986, 1996 and 2008 and has also won the Miss World contest five times.
