Empire Magazine honours the best films of the past year

British actor Gary Oldman was declared a film icon in London at the Jameson Empire Awards.

The star, about to be seen in the upcoming big screen re-imagining of Red Riding Hood, was presented with the accolade by fellow British actor Colin Firth who was named Best Actor on the night.Firth, who won several major awards for his performance as King George VI in “The King’s Speech” including a BAFTA and an Oscar joked, “Just when I thought it was over,” upon receiving this latest prize.On the day after her 26th birthday, actress Keira Knightley was awarded the Empire Hero award at the ceremony, saying the honour made the perfect gift. Best Actress award went to the Swedish star of “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo”, Noomi Rapace.The teenage star of the action-comedy “Kick-Ass” and Hammer horror film “Let Me In”, Chloe Moretz, was named Best Newcomer. Moretz will next be seen in Martin Scorsese’s fantasy, “Hugo Cabret”.The annual awards are voted for by the readers of Empire Magazine.
