Film critic Stanley Kauffmann dies at 97
Longtime film critic Stanley Kauffmann has died at the age of 97.
NEW YORK (AP) - Editor Adam Plunkett of The New Republic says Kauffmann died of pneumonia Wednesday morning at St. Luke s Hospital in Manhattan.
Kauffman began reviewing for The New Republic in 1958 and remained there for more than 50 years, becoming one of the oldest working critics in history.
He also wrote several novels and plays and helped discover Ray Bradbury s classic novel "Fahrenheit 451."
Kauffmann s film criticism brought him an Emmy and a George Polk Award.
Kauffmann was briefly The New York Times theater critic, in 1966, and also taught at the Yale School of Drama.
