Kate Winslet returned to the German film studio where she made the Oscar-winning film The Reader on Thursday evening to accept the 2009 Bambi Award for best international actress. The British actress, who won the Academy Award for best actress, said on the sidelines of the gala ceremony of 800 that the prize was very important because to be acknowledged for playing a German woman here in Germany is something very special about it. The Bambi, presented by German publishing giant the Hubert Burda Media Group, honours achievement in film, television and music as well as sports, fashion and social engagement. Colombia's Shakira won a Bambi for international pop. Boxing brothers Vitali and Vladimir Klitchko of Ukraine were honoured in the sports category. In recent years, Bambis were awarded to Americans Meg Ryan, Tom Cruise and Eva Longoria.
