Summary

Cuban auction house opens its doors to decorative art collectors in the hope of raising revenues amid the current financial downturn. For the first time since opening its doors in 2002, auction house Subasta Havana will include decorative arts in its auction in the hope of cashing in to the tune of one million dollars despite the economic downturn. Cuba's communist government will get a cut of the profits. The decorative pieces will be auctioned alongside more traditional art works like Mario Carreno's (1913-1999) Television Aerial which organizers predict will fetch between 100,000 or 120,000 dollars. The Cuban art showing will be taken to the National Hotel in Havana on November 11 and brings together 70 lots, 45 of which come from local artists and include paintings, sculptures and drawings.
