Summary

A museum in Buenos Aires unveiled an exhibition of art works painted by disabled artists using their feet and mouths. The show, 'When your Mouth and Feet are your Hands showcases 150 works done by members of the Association of Mouth and Foot Painting Artists (AMFPA).Many of the artists have found a way to express their creativity despite severe disabilities or illnesses that have left them without or with limited use of their hands. Argentine painter Alberto Alvarez who suffers from cerebral palsy has been a member of AMFPA for more than 25 years and told he was happiest when painting. Having done everything with his mouth since he was a small boy, Alvarez says painting with his mouth came naturally. Italian foot and mouth painter and President of the AMFPA, Eros Bonamini, attended the function and says the association was not a charity, but a group aiming to give disabled artists a way to make a living. The association puts on art exhibitions around the world and promotes its artists' works by printing and selling calendars and greeting cards. The AMFPA started as a group of 18 artists in 1957 and today represents 726 artists in 74 countries and promotes their work with exhibitions around the globe.
