Summary Tripoli University says it is asking London School of Economics to return money pledged by Gaddafi.
Tripoli University said on Monday it will ask a London-based university to return the 1.5m British pounds (2.3 million US dollars) pledged by the deposed dictators son Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, who obtained his Ph. D there.University officials say the money offered to the London School of Economics (LSE) was stolen from the Libyan people and should either be reimbursed or used to fund scholarships for Libyans studying in the UK.“We want them to bring back the money which they have been paid illegally,” said interim head of Tripoli University, Dr. Faisal al-Koreekshi. An independent inquiry headed by Lord Woolf, a former Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales, is examining the LSEs relationship with Libya.
