(Dunya News) – The three-day Karachi Literature Festival kicked off in the coastal city on Friday featuring scholars, authors and artists from different countries in a bid to encourage the exchange of ideas and knowledge.
The 9th Karachi Literature Festival is hosting a series of panel discussions and talks on a diverse range of subjects, including politics, arts, literature, history and performing arts. As many as 230 scholars are taking part in the literature festival. Of those participating, 30 are foreign scholars with 7 hailing from India.
The festival, which started in Karachi on Friday, was addressed by founders Ameena Saiyid and Asif Farrukhi. Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan Ajay Bisaria also addressed the inaugural ceremony of the festival. Participants including British educationist Adrian Mellor, British historian Francis Robinson and Pakistani writer Noor ul Huda Shah, along with the American Consul General Grace Shelton addressed the crowds during the first day of the festival.

Speaking to Dunya News, renowned Pakistani artist Irfan Khoosat said that people should come to such festivals that celebrate literature and benefit from these.
This year, the festival will award literary prizes in categories including fiction, and non-fiction, and Urdu.
The first day of the festival included a Sindhi mushaera. The book fair at the festival remained the centre of attraction for book lovers.

The opening day of the festival concluded with a classical dance performance by Shayma Saiyid.
