Special scholarships allocated to students in Balochistan, FATA: Senate told

Senate was informed that extra scholarships were allocated to Balochistan and FATA students.

The Senate, Wednesday, was informed that besides current quota, government had allocated special and additional scholarships for brilliant students from Federally Administrated Tribal Areas and Balochistan.Leader of the House Jehangir Bader said that total of 3,568 Overseas scholarships were awarded from 2008 to 2012 in various undergraduates, postgraduates, IRSIP, PhDs and post Doctorate Overseas Scholarship schemes by Higher Education Commission (HEC).He added that all HEC overseas scholarship schemes were advertised in National dailies as well as on HEC website and selection of fortunate candidates up to June, 2011 was made on open merit for all the provinces as approved by the Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) Government of Pakistan in PC-1s of the development project.“However, since July2011, the overseas Scholarships (OSS-II and UESTP) as well as Indigenous 5000 scholarships are awarded on the basis of approved provincial / regional quota as per federal Govt. quota policy” he confided the House.
