ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Police have arrested four suspects in connection with a major underground cable theft network operating in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, marking significant progress in the investigation into a series of theft incidents in the twin cities.

According to sources, investigators have also uncovered alleged links between the network and five police officers serving in Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

Police said stolen underground cables and cutting tools were recovered from the arrested suspects, while cases have been registered against them.

One suspect was arrested within the jurisdiction of Westridge Police Station, while the remaining three were taken into custody within the limits of Civil Lines Police Station.

Sources claim the alleged network comprises more than 50 individuals, including scrap dealers, labourers and police personnel. The group reportedly stole underground cables from various locations and transported them to Gujranwala, where they were sold.

Police added the arrested suspects confessed during interrogation to transporting the stolen cables to Gujranwala for sale.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to identify other members of the alleged network and establish the involvement of those suspected of facilitating the thefts.
