Summary Punjab Police have registered unprecedented cases against officers accused of seeking Eid money from citizens under anti-begging laws.
FIROZWALA (Dunya News) – In a first, police in Punjab have registered cases under anti-begging laws against the personnel accused of seeking money from citizens in the name of Eid gifts.
DIG Operations Faisal Kamran also directed police officials across the city to refrain from engaging in such unlawful practices.
According to police, allegations surfaced that some personnel at Shahdara Police Station had been asking citizens for money.
Following the complaint, DIG Faisal Kamran assigned an inquiry to the SDPO Islam Pura, which found the allegations to be valid.
After the complaint was substantiated, two cases were registered against the police personnel at Shahdara Police Station.
The cases were lodged under Section 155-C and relevant provisions of the Beggary Act.
DIG Faisal Kamran said no leniency would be shown to those who damage the reputation of the police department by soliciting money from the public.
He added that there was no place in the police force for “beggars” or officials who exceeded their authority, warning that strict legal and departmental action would continue against anyone tarnishing the image of the force.
