Summary A woman and her newborn died during childbirth in Gujranwala, with family alleging medical negligence, while hospital authorities have launched an inquiry into the incident.
LAHORE (Dunya News) - A woman and her newborn daughter have died during childbirth at a government hospital in Gujranwala, with the family alleging medical negligence by doctors and staff.
According to relatives, the deceased woman, identified as Wafa Mehboob, had been brought to DHQ Teaching Hospital Gujranwala for delivery. They claimed that although doctors cited a shortage of blood and arranged for two bottles, the transfusion was never administered.
The family further alleged that the newborn died shortly after birth, while the mother also passed away soon afterwards. They said senior doctors were not present when the patient’s condition deteriorated.
The deceased was a resident of Garjakh, and her family staged a protest at the hospital, demanding strict action against those responsible.
Meanwhile, the hospital’s Medical Superintendent Dr Imtiaz Rana stated that the patient’s complications and blood deficiency had been communicated to the family in advance.
He added that a four-member inquiry committee has been constituted, and strict action will be taken if negligence is proven.
