Dr Maha case: SHC grants bail to both fugitives till Nov 12
KARACHI (Dunya News) - The Sindh High Court (SHC) has granted bail to two fugitive accused in Dr Maha’s suicide case till November 12. The court has ordered the accused to appear in the trial court.
According to details, Sindh High Court has granted bail to accused Junaid and Waqas in various cases of Dr Maha Shah suicide case. Bail of both the accused was granted against surety bonds of Rs100,000.
The court has ordered both the accused to appear in the trial court. It may be recalled that a case was registered on the complaint of Dr Maha Shah s father Asif Ali Shah in which accused Junaid and Waqas were named.
The fugitive accused in the Dr Maha suicide case had approached the Sindh High Court for bail for fleeing from the court premises. According to police, the accused had escaped from police custody after their bail was rejected by the city court.
It may be recalled that Dr Maha Shah s medico-legal report had indicated the possibility of her assassination.
According to the report, Dr. Maha used to work with his right hand but the bullet hit him in the left side of the head and came out from the right side. Officials said that if the report was correct, it would raise suspicions that the crime scene was fake.
On the basis of the medico-legal report, a request was made to the magistrate for exhumation of Dr. Maha, which was granted. If the investigation proves that Dr. Maha s death was murder, then the family can be included in the investigation. Dr. Maha s funeral will be held on October 15 at 11 a.m. A medical board consisting of 5 officers has been constituted for exhumation of Dr Maha.
It may be recalled that Dr. Maha Ali, a female doctor, allegedly shot herself in the Defense area of Karachi.
Junaid, a close friend of Dr Maha, had told police in a statement that he had been in a relationship with her for the past four years and the two were about to get married.
Junaid said that he used to pick and drop Maha at a private hospital every day but on the day she committed suicide, Maha forbade him to come to her home.
A friend of doctor Maha said that she used to quarrel with her parents often. Maha used to live in depression due to domestic problems.
Dr Maha s father, Asif Ali Shah, told in a news conference that his daughter was being blackmailed and physically abused. He alleged that an organized group, including Junaid, Dr Irfan and Waqas, first drugged his daughter, then blackmailed and threatened her, which led to her death.
