Death toll rises to 11 in armed clash between two groups in Jalalpur Pirwala

JALALPUR PIRWALA (Dunya News) – The death toll following an armed clash between two rival groups yesterday in Jalalpur Pirwala, a tehsil of Multan in Punjab province, rose to 11 on Thursday, Dunya News reported. At least 17 people were wounded in the tragic incident.
Besides, funeral prayers of eight persons belonging to a same group were offered.
According to details, member of one group were returning after offering Eid prayers when their rivals sprayed bullets on them killing eight persons, including a passer-by, were killed on the spot while 17 others sustained critical bullet wounds. Two of the attackers were also killed in a response from the first group.
Fear and panic spread in the area after the incident, and a heavy contingent of police rushed to the spot for preventing the situation from deteriorating further.
Meanwhile, police lodged an FIR, including sections 302 and 7 of anti-terrorism act (ATA), nominating 20 identified and five unidentified persons.
Moreover, six teams have been formed to arrest the suspects. One of the groups has accused police of favouring its rival group.
Currently, 16 people are undergoing medical treatment in the Nishtar Hospital and Jalalpur Pirwala Hospitals.
Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar took notice of the incident, and summoned a report from the regional police officer (RPO) of Multan, and assured that suspects would be arrested as soon as possible and would be brought to justice.
