Summary Regional Valencia court says it will call on Formula One chief Bernie Ecclestone to give evidence

MADRID: (AP) - A regional court in the eastern city of Valencia says it will call on Formula One chief Bernie Ecclestone to give evidence as it investigates alleged corruption and embezzlement in the awarding of contracts to hold the 2012 F1 race in Valencia.

Ecclestone and 13 other witnesses will be called in a probe into irregularities, including how a private company with no motorsports experience and only 12 employees was allowed to operate the multimillion-dollar event, the court said Monday.

Spain s prosecutor began the investigation in December 2014. It also involves Francisco Camps, a former president of the Valencia region, and Jorge Martinez, a shareholder in Valmor Sports, the company that Camps awarded the race s hosting rights to after securing them from Ecclestone.
