Summary Police have no proof that the suspects had participated in sexual assaults against the children.

OSLO (AFP) - Norwegian police said Thursday they had arrested or interrogated 73 suspects believed to have shared child pornography on the Internet.

The police seized 173 computers in a nationwide operation on Wednesday, criminal police inspector Bjoern-Erik Ludvigsen said at a press conference.

From a total of 73 suspects, 44 admitted to the crime, he said, without specifying how many had been charged overall.

In one case, more than 600,000 pornographic images were found. "It s only the tip of the iceberg," Ludvigsen told AFP.

The police said they did not have any proof at this point that the suspects had participated in sexual assaults against the children.

However, they added that past experience has shown that around 30 percent of those who share child pornography on the Internet tend to be involved in the assaults.
