Youngsters should be given more opportunities: Kiran

Dunya News

Former Indian cricketer Kiran More said selectors should give more opportunities to young players.

Former Indian cricketer Kiran More said that the time has come for the selectors to take tough decisions in the wake of the Indian teams disastrous performance in Australia.Speaking in western Vadodara city on Friday, More said that the Indian team, which is currently 0-2 down in the Test series, and were on the mat in the ongoing third test match, has been totally outplayed by the Kangaroos.More also said that the selectors should rope in young players as this time and it might get too late afterwards.I dont think we should blame the coach for this. It is team effort. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. What is crucial is that the selectors have to change their selection process now. You have to take decisions keeping the future in mind. You have to give the younger players more opportunities soon. Then only you can form a good cricket team, More said.Indias fabled batting line-up, particularly the veteran trio of Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and V.V.S. Laxman, failed to provide solid foundations for an Indian onslaught on the difficult tour.Experts believe that the hype around Tendulkars elusive pursuit of his 100th international hundred is affecting his approach to the game.Defending the senior players he said that these were legendary players who have made immense contribution to Indian cricket. He also added that retirement is a decision which should be left to the individual. We should also not blame only the senior cricketers. If a player thinks he wants to retire, then its okay. It has to be a players individual decision. All these senior cricketers have given their everything for Indian cricket. So blaming them is not done. However, selection process of the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) and the selectors is very important, added More.Australian batsman David Warner smashed the fastest test century by an opening batsman as Australia humbled India on the first day of the third test on January 13, dismissing the tourists for a paltry 161.Australia leads 2-0 in the series, winning the first Test by 122 runs and won the second Test by an innings and 68 runs.
