LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Saturday denied that the game’s governing body has offered fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi vice-captaincy of the squad for T20 World Cup.

In a statement, the PCB said the selection committee on Friday discussed the slot of vice-captain but “no-one was offered to be vice-captain.”

Earlier, there were news from PCB sources that Afridi was offered to become the vice-captain and he turned it down.

The sources claimed that Afridi complained that why he was removed from the captaincy. They quoted him as saying that he (Afridi) will play as a fast bowler in the team and will fully support the new captain.

It may be recalled that Afridi was allowed to lead the team in T20 series against New Zealand after removal of Babar after ODI World Cup debacle last year. But, ironically the left-armer was given just one series to prove his mettle as captain. And he was removed after losing the series.
