Tim Southee has been confirmed to fly to India for the 2023 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup

(Web Desk) - New Zealand have been given a major boost ahead of CWC23 with their senior pacer cleared to take the flight to India.

Tim Southee has been confirmed to fly to India for the 2023 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup in a huge relief for the Blackcaps just days away from the tournament.

The fast bowler had elected to undergo surgery for a dislocated and fractured thumb he sustained on New Zealand's tour of England.

With the team sweating on a number of injuries of late, Southee's was a major concern for the team and this news, closely following their 2-0 series triumph in Bangladesh will see them head into the tournament a more confident unit.

The team will be led by Kane Williamson, who is also set to make a return after a long injury layoff, at the World Cup.

Southee is still progressing in his recovery from surgery and as a contingency, pace-bowler Kyle Jamieson will also join the World Cup squad in India this week to train.

Jamieson will not officially be part of the World Cup squad and therefore not available to play in any of the warm-up matches. The Kiwis are set to face Pakistan and South Africa in the warm-up games ahead of the World Cup opener against England on October 5.
