LAHORE (Web Desk) – Former Pakistani cricketer, Aaqib Javed, on Thursday suggested that Shaheen Shah Afridi should lead the national team in T20Is, praising his leadership qualities and commendable style of work.

Mr Javed spoke to a local cricket website, where he rated Afridi highly and shared that the 23-year-old pacer did what none of the captains did during the Pakistan Super League (PSL) so far.

Mr Javed acknowledged that Shaheen led Lahore Qalandars to two consecutive PSL titles and became the only captain to defend the title.

He noted that Shaheen's approach was positive, and he played fearless cricket.

"Even if you bring in Shadab, regardless of the format, I don't see any variations or changes—particularly aggressive change. Or if you bring in Rizwan, there won't be any apparent culture change. If someone can amp up Pakistan cricket and take it in the right direction, that is Shaheen Shah Afridi," he added.

The coach, who struggled to find winning ways in the first four seasons with Lahore Qalandars, was highly criticized.

However, the team's development program worked for them as they found their feet in the tournament.

Under Shaheen's captaincy, Lahore won two consecutive PSL titles in 2022 and 2023.

Mr Javed suggested that Babar Azam should remain the captain in test and one-day formats.

However, "Shaheen should lead the national side as a captain in T20Is, keeping in mind the ICC T20 World Cup 2024," he asserted.

Shaheen Shah Afridi is considered one of the most exciting young fast bowlers in the world. His performance has been consistent, and he has already established himself as a key player for the Pakistani cricket team.
