Brook propels England to victory against Pakistan in World Cup warm-up
BRISBANE (Dunya News) – Harry Brook’s unbeaten 24-ball 45 and Ben Stokes fiery 18-ball 36 propelled England to victory against Pakistan in World Cup warm-up match on Monday.
It was England, who won the toss and sent Pakistan to bat first, who were led by Shadab Khan. Due to rain, the match was reduced to 19 overs per side. Pakistan managed to finish their innings as 160-8.
The top-scorer for Pakistan was Shan Masood, who opened today and went on to score 22-ball 39, studded with four sixes, and was followed by tailender Mohammad Wasim, who scored a fiery 16-ball 26 and gave Pakistan something to bowl at.
David Willey bagged two wickets (2-22), while Stokes, Curran and Jordan took a scalp each.
In response, the England started off their innings by facing an early blow in the form of Phil Salt’s wicket, but it was the experience of Ben Stokes that helped England to recover. In his innings of 18-ball 36, Stokes clobbered two fours and three gigantic sixes.
Later, the task to power the English team to a victory was handed over to Harry Brook, who looked belligerent for his 24-ball 45 and he smashed two fours and four towering sixes and was well supported by Sam Curran, who played an explosive knock of 14-ball 33, studded with two boundaries and three sixes. Liam Livingstone also contributed 16-ball 28 to the scorecard of England. During his cameo, Livingstone hit a boundary two sixes.
For Pakistan, it was Mohammad Wasim (2-16) who also grabbed two wickets, after showcasing his batting talent in the death overs and was followed by Naseem Shah and Shadab Khan, who took a scalp each. The star-studded pacer, Shaheen Shah was back in action by bowling two overs with a brilliant economy rate of 3.50.
