Pakistan beat Zimbabwe by 26 runs in first Rawalpindi ODI

RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) – Pakistan on Friday beat visiting Zimbabwe by 26 runs, after the hosts bowled Zimbabwe out for 255 within the 50th over. Pakistan had set a 282-run target for Zimbabwe to chase down in the first one-day international (ODI) at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

Shaheen Shah Afridi starred for Pakistan in the second innings by picking up five crucial wickets, including that of centurion Brendan Taylor. Wahab Riaz also hit the ground running in the first match with four wickets, cleaning up Zimbabwe towards the end of the inning.

Haris Sohail top-scored for Pakistan with 82-ball 71. Opener Imam-ul-Haq also registered a half-century (58 off 75). For Zimbabwe, Blessing Muzarabani and Tendai Chisoro took two wickets apiece.

Earlier, Pakistan won the toss against and decided to bat first. Babar Azam is debuting as Pakistan’s ODI captain in the three-match series which is Pakistan’s first in the new World Cup Super League, the qualification process for the 50-over World Cup in 2023.
