Pak offers Sri Lanka to host Asia Cup 2020

LAHORE (Web Desk) - Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has offered Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) to host the Asia Cup 2020 and two boards have been expected to exchange views on hosting the Asia Cup 2020.

According to sources, the PCB and the Sri Lanka Cricket Board have agreed to exchange terms for hosting the Asia Cup 2020. The decision on hosting the event will be made at the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting later this month.

On the other hand, Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) President Shammi Silva has claimed that he has received a green signal from the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) to host the Asia Cup T20 tournament.

"We have talked to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and due to the current global situation, they have already agreed to transfer hosting of this edition to Sri Lanka," Shammi Silva said.

He said that an online meeting of the Asian Cricket Council was held today in which the Pakistan Cricket Board gave us the green signal to host the tournament.

Silva added that he would now have to negotiate with the Sri Lanka government about hosting the event and make a proper plan involving medical officials to host the tournament, taking into account the COVID-19 protocol.

According to sources the PCB is keen on sports activities but the situation of coronavirus is better in Sri Lanka and flight operation has also been resumed in Sri Lanka.

Pakistan was supposed to host the tournament in the United Arab Emirates, but the situation of the COVID-19 has not improved in the Arab countries and the PCB is facing difficulties in hosting the tournament there.

Asia Cup will include 5 full members India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan as well as the winning team of the qualifying tournament. India is the defending champion of the tournament. Pakistan was given the right to host the tournament in December 2018.
