Condolences pour in on demise of legendary spinner Abdul Qadir

PCB said, "shocked at the news of 'maestro' Abdul Qadir's passing" and offered condolences.

LAHORE (Dunya News) - On the demise of legendary spinner Abdul Qadir, whole world started expressing grief and condolences on the loss of a prominent name in the history of cricket. 

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has expressed its shock and grief at the news of legendary leg-spinner Abdul Qadir’s passing and has sent a message of condolence to his family.

PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani said here “We are devastated with the news of Abdul Qadir’s passing and on behalf of the PCB, I want to express my deepest condolences to his family and friends.”

“The PCB, like every Pakistani, is proud of his services to cricket and Pakistan. His contributions and achievements were not only limited on-field, but he ensured he transferred the art of leg-spin to the up-and-coming cricketers.”

“Apart from being a maestro with the ball, Abdul Qadir was a larger-than-life figure who was adored, loved and respected across the globe due to his excellent understanding and knowledge of the game, and strong cricket ethics and discipline.”

“He played hard cricket within the spirit of cricket and in doing so, not only earned respect from his opponents but turned his foes into friends.”

“Today, global cricket has become poorer with his passing. He will be missed but will never be forgotten.”

PCB expressed deepest condolences on the shocking death of maestro. 

Many important figures expressed grief on the death of one of the greatest player ever to play the game.

Pacer Umar Gul took to Twitter and expressed, "Shocked and deeply saddened to hear about Abdul Qadir sahib death. May Allah ease his akhirat n grant him highest ranks in jannah."

Greatest of the all time Sachin Tendulkar hailed Qadir as one of the best players of his times and offered deepest condolences on his death.

DG ISPR also condoled the death of Qadir saying, “Pakistan has lost a great sportsman and a human being. May Allah bless his soul and gives strength to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss, Aamen.”

Wasim Akram expressed, "They called him the magician for many reasons but when he looked me in the eyes & told me I was going to play for Pakistan for the next 20 years, I believed him."

Kamran Akaml expressed, "Many important figures expressed grief on the death of one of the greatest player ever to play the game.May Allah make his last journey easy & Give him best place in Jannah Ameen".

Pakistani wicket-keeper grieved the death of the legend and prayed for his departed soul. Absolutely shocking news to hear the sad passing Legend Abdul Qadir saab. May Allah SWT grant him the highest rank in jannah and his family the patience to bare the loss. #Ameen

Senator Faisal Javed Khan said, "Saddened to hear abt the death of Abdul Qadir Bhai - A great cricketer of Pak -Top leg spinner of his time, Googly specialist & above all a good human being.

Wahab Riaz took to Twitter and said, "A legend of the game, Abdul Qadir left us today."

Pakistan‘s young star Babar Azam said, "We all belong to Allah SWT and to Him we all shall return. Deeply saddened to hear about Sir Abdul Qadir’s death. May Allah meet his soul with a smile & keep him in His shade of love & mercy, Ameen."

Shoaib Akhtar also credited him in a sad message, "Legendary leg spinner Abdul Qadir sb passed away. Just got this sad news. The revival of leg spin in cricket is completely credited to him."

All-rounder Shoaib Malik expressed grief, ""May Allah give him the highest level of Jannat and may people always remember him with love and the highest level of respect in this world,"

Saeed Ajmal said, "May Allah bless the departed soul of legendary leg spinner Abdul Qadir Sahib who has passed away due to heart attack."

Sports analyst Zainab Abbas also shared a melancholic tweet, "Tragic news about Abdul Qadir,one of the greatest leg spinners of all time,did a few shows with him & he was always energetic and passionate about his views,may he RIP!"

Politician Ali Khan Tareen also expressed grief on the death of Abdul Qadir, "Very sad to hear about the passing of legendary bowler Abdul Qadir. The man who made wrist spin cool again, he is one of the most influential figures in test cricket. Often described as an artist, he leaves this world a true legend. Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi rajiun."

Host of Mazaaq Raat Vasay Chaudhry also shared the memory of Abdul Qadir.

TV star Veena Malik also poured in condolences for the late cricketer saying he inspired a generation of bowlers to sign up for spin bowling.

Prime Minister and former skipper Imran Khan also expressed deepest condolence on the demise of his partner.

He started his career with a Test match against England in Lahore on December 14, 1977, and played his last Test against West Indies in Lahore on December 6, 1990. He played the first ODI against New Zealand in Birmingham on June 11, 1983 while playing his last ODI against Sri Lanka in Sharjah on November 2, 1993.
