PCB in search of new head coach: sources.
LAHORE (Dunya News) – After Pakistan failed to qualify for the semi-finals of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, changes are on the cards in the team as well as in the management.
Sources privy to Dunya News revealed that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is looking for a new head coach for the Green Shirts, and former Ashes-winning coach Andy Flower and Pakistan’s Saqlain Mushtaq are strong contenders for the job.
Zimbabwe’s Andy flower remained England coach for five years. The PCB is also considering to appoint separate captains for the Test matches and the limited-overs format.
It has been learnt that team’s current skipper across all formats will presumably be replaced as captain in the Tests while he will be retained in the one-day internationals (ODIs) and Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).
Selection committee – led by Inzamam-ul-Haq – is also likely to be replaced. The sources have claimed that former Test cricketer and coach Mohsin Hassan Khan, erstwhile captain Moeen Khan and Aamir Sohail are being considered for the selection committee heads.
It is worth mentioning here that Pakistan head coach Mickey Arthur held a meeting with the PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani in London and intended to continue his job with the Green Shirts.
It was also suggested by the PCB management to extend Mickey Arthur’s contract for another year till the T20I World Cup, but the final decision is yet to be made. Let it be known that the contracts of selection committee and coaching staff have expired after the World Cup.
All these key decisions will be taken by the PCB Cricket Committee comprising former captains Wasim Akram and Misbah-ul-Haq, and PCB MD Wasim Khan.
