Persistent rain ruined any chance of play getting underway

NOTTINGHAM (Dunya News) – New Zealand remain unbeaten at the Cricket World Cup after their clash with India was washed out in Nottingham.

Persistent rain ruined any chance of play getting underway on Thursday at Trent Bridge. The abandoned result keeps the Black Caps top of the World Cup table and yet to lose at the tournament.

New Zealand began the World Cup with victories over Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan, all whom they were warm favourites against.

India, the only other side yet to lose, loomed as a massive step up in quality and would have been New Zealand s toughest test thus far. Both teams collect a competition point, which keeps them on track for the top four semifinals.

It is worth mentioning here that rains have seriously affected the ongoing World Cup as three matches have been abandoned due to the showers so far.

Earlier, Pakistan-Sri Lanka, South Africa-West Indies and Bangladesh-Sri Lanka matches were called off owing to rains and all teams shared a point each.
