DUBLIN (AFP) - Ireland and England saw the scheduled start of their one-day international at Malahide on Friday delayed by a wet outfield.

This match was set to see England give a debut to Jofra Archer, with the Barbados-born fast bowler making a late bid to gain a place in the tournament hosts’ final squad for the World Cup.

The toss in Friday’s one-off fixture had been due at 10:15 am (0915 GMT), with the match meant to get underway at 10:45 am.

But with groundstaff still dealing with the effect of heavy rain from Thursday, the umpires planned to hold a pitch inspection at 11:00am in the hope a full 50-overs per side match could still be played.
