AB de Villiers shocks fans with sudden retirement from international cricket

Dunya News

AB had made his Test debut against England in 2004.

(Web Desk) – Veteran South African cricketer AB de Villiers aka Mr. 360 degree on Wednesday announced sudden retirement from international cricket with immediate effect.

The 34-year-old batsman posted a video message on popular micro-blogging website Twitter.

“I want to let you know that I’ve decided to retire from all international cricket with immediate effect. After 114 Test matches, 228 ODIs and 78 T20Is it is time for others to take over. To be honest, I’m tired. This is a tough decision but I would love to retire while still playing decent cricket. And after the fantastic series against Australia and India, now I feel right time to step down”.

“I would always be grateful to my teammates, the coaches and Cricket South Africa for their support”, stated right hand batsman on his Twitter account.

AB had made his Test and ODI debuts against England in 2004 and 2005 respectively.

With de Villiers in high demand from foreign leagues, his workload became a talking point in the 2015-16 summer when he suggested he would have to look at ways to lighten the load. There were rumours of early retirement but those were quashed when he was asked to stand in as Test captain when Amla gave up the job mid-series against England.

But Mr. 360 degree succumbed to the demand pressure and finally bid farewell to gentleman game citing tiredness.
