Lahore Qalandars had won the toss, decided to bowl first in the must-win encounter against Islamabad

SHARJAH (Web Desk) -- Islamabad United edged out Lahore Qalandars in super over to register their second win in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2018 in Sharjah on Friday.

Earlier the match ended when the scores were level at the end of Lahore Qalandars innings and the match went into super over to decide the outcome.

Lahore Qalandars batted first in the super over. Fakhar Zaman and Brendon McCullum come to open the innings. Mohammad Sami bowled for Islamabad United. McCullum hit the first ball for a six but lost his wicket on the next ball. Umar Akmal joined Fakhar at the crease. Umar failed to score on third ball of the innings but sent the next ball over the rope for six. Umar added one run on the fifth ball and Fakhar managed two runs from the only ball he faced thus giving Islamabad United 16 runs target to win the match.

Russell and Asif Ali came out for batting for Islamabad United. Russell hit the first ball a single. Asif Ali hit the next ball for a six and missed to score on the third ball. He scored a single on the fourth ball. The next ball from Mustafizur Rahman was a wide and Russell hit four on the fifth ball and ended the match in style by hitting the last ball for a six to give Islamabad United a much needed victory.

Score levelled in the thrilling finish between Lahore Qalandars and Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2018 encounter in Sharjah. 

Debutant Kashmiri talent Salman Irshad got out after a heroic six.

Skipper Brendon McCullum played all the way till end with wickets falling at regular intervals at the other end. McCullum tried to defy win to United by scoring 34 (49b).

Lahore Qalandars 78/3 (12/20 ov, target 122)

Sohail Akhtar pulled a short delivery from Faheem Ashraf straight up in the air to land in the safe hands of Asif Ali who took a brilliant catch.

Agha Salman played a subtle knock of 48 (35b) before getting out to Mohammad Sami, who also dismissed Denesh Ramdin through a speedy bouncer. 

Samit Patel took two wickets in the first over of the second innings. He dismissed both Umar Akmal and Fakhar Zaman without troubling the scoreboard much.

Islamabad United 121/9 (20 ov)

United started slow and kept losing wickets. The Misbah XI could only manage to score 121 for the loss of nine wickets.

Both openers of United Sahibzada Farhan and Luke Ronchi fell early. Debutant Irshad took the wicket of United’s captain Misbah-ul-Haq on his first ball. Hussain Talat gave some support in the end with a quickfire 33 off 21 balls to end his team reach a defendable total. 

JP Duminy was the only batsman who tried to contribute by playing steady cricket. He scored 34 off 36.

Yasir Shah finished his four overs by giving away just 20 runs and picking three crucial wickets. Sunil Narine also bowled an economical spell.

Due to wet outfield, the toss was delayed by half an hour. It was told that the play will start late and the match will be continued without the loss of overs, subject to no further rain.

Earlier in the day, Karachi Kings and Multan Sultans were awarded one point each as the match match was cancelled owing to downpour.
