Razzaq says Sethi's appointment as PCB chairman is a positive step

Abdul Razzaq also said PSL is an opportunity for the return of international cricket in Pakistan

WASHINGTON D.C. (Dunya News) - Abdul Razzaq believes that the selection of Najam Sethi as Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will boost the level of cricket in Pakistan, adding that his experience will ensure major efforts for effective promotion of the game.

While attending the Independence Day celebrations in Washington, the former Pakistani cricketer spoke to Dunya News where he talked about the current form of Pakistan cricket team and board’s position.  

He commended that improvements are being made regarding situation of Pakistan cricket through Pakistan Super League (PSL), which reflects Sethi s intention to bring back International cricket and players to the country. He said that the decision to hold PSL final in Karachi next year after the Lahore final could prove pivotal in establishing Pakistan’s image as safe country for the game. It will being our players to the standards of international cricket, he added.

When asked about the role of Head Coach Mickey Arthur, he responded that the coach should be from Pakistan, as history warrants their importance in keeping team and performance intact. He further added that the coach should keep focus on team building and performance, and ignore off the field influences. He stated that good cricket gives confidence and breakthrough to the team and elaborate that ‘less changes and more chances’ would ensure continuity which is essential for performance of the players and the team.

Regarding the replacements of Younis Khan and Misbah-ul-Haq, he said that their absence should be fulfilled by training and developing the talented young players, who should be provided more opportunities to work on their game.
