Summary South Africa finished their innings on 219 for the loss eight wickets after the allotted 50 overs

BIRMINGHAM (Dunya News) – In the crucial encounter of Group B, it’s the South African side that will take on the unpredictable Pakistan in Edgbaston. Pakistan lost to India in their first face-off of ICC Champions Trophy while South Africa ease past Sri Lanka in their first match.

South African skipper AB de Villiers won the toss and opts to bat first at Edgbaston. After the humiliating show in the last match against India, Pakistan have decided to give green cap to Fakhar Zaman who will be replacing Ahmad Shehzad while Junaid Khan has been brought in for injured Wahab Riaz.

Pakistani bowlers were bowling exceptionally well as they were not providing any sort of width to the South African’s batsman whatsoever.

Imad bowled yet another good over and as usual went for just two runs.

Amir was introduced to the attack as he bowled a quick over to concede 5 runs in the over.



Morris lofted towards midwicket for four more of the bowling of Shadab.

In the fortieth over, Amir bowled an exceptional delivery and an appeal for leg before wicket was given by the umpire however the third umpire turned down the decision as the ball was missing the stumps according to HawkEye.

Junaid got the wicket of Morris as he was caught by Hasan Ali after scoring 28 runs.

Muhammad Amir and Junaid were bowling brilliantly in the depth overs as they were not providing any chance to the South African batsmen.

South Africa were 175 for the loss of seven wickets after 45 overs.

Rabada pulls over midwicket for four more of the bowling of Amir in the forty eighth over.



In the next over, Miller hit it hard for a huge six of Junaid’s bowling. An outside edge of Rabada’s bat went away for four more.

Rabada skewed the ball of the last delivery as Hasan Ali caught it brilliantly at long-on.

Hasan Ali bowled the last over as he went for six runs that also included a boundary.

Muhammad Hafeez continued to bowl the sixteenth over as he hit the right areas and conceded just two runs while putting the pressure on South African side.

Imad too conceded just two runs in the next over.

Almost a replica of the previous over as Hafeez bowled yet another superb over to give away two runs to the batsmen.

Hafiz-Imad duo was turning out to be the ‘Edgbaston nightmare’ for the South African side.



For the first time, Hafeez went for a few runs as he conceded seven runs in the twentieth over.

South Africa were 78 for the loss of three wickets after 20 overs.

The skipper opted to continue with his favorite duo even after the twentieth over. Imad came and hit the nice areas to concede five runs in the over.

du Plessis took the charge in the twenty second over as he played it nicely into the gap for four more.

South Africa were 90 for the loss of three wickets after 22 overs.

The skipper opted to introduce Hasan Ali to the attack as he removed the dangerous du Plesis for 26 runs after an inside edge from his bat dragged into his stumps.



Hafeez continued from the other end as he bowled yet another good over to concede just two runs.

Hasan Ali was also building presuure through his fine pace bowling as nothing was working for the South African side at this point of the match.

The dangerous Miller in order to remove the pressure decided to come down the wicket as he thumped one away of Hafeez for a huge six.

However, Hasan was not providing any sort of width to the South African batsmen whatsoever.

Miller yet again chose Hafeez as he comes down the wicket and hammered it away towards long-on for a huge six.

It was at this point of time when things got even more worse for South Africa as Hasan Ali removed JP Duminy and Parnell in the same over.



South Africa were in deep trouble as they were six down with run rate at four runs per over.

Shadab was introduced to the attack as he bowled a good first over.

South Africa were 121 for the loss of six wickets after 30 overs.

Hasan Ali was turning out to be the trump card for the skipper as he bowled a maiden over.

Meanwhile, Imad was mixing up quite brilliantly as he conceded just one run in thirteenth over.

Hafeez who was turning out to be so annoying for de Kock turned out to be even more nightmarish as he was trapped plumb in front of the stump this time.

South Africa lost their second wicket as their second opener also departed.



Things got even more worse for South Africa as they lost their key man and skipper AB de Villiers who was caught by Mohammad Hafeez of the bowling of Imad Wasim of the very first delivery he faced.

Junaid bolwed rather a good sixth over as not that much width was provided to the batsmen.

Amla smashed away a ball from Amir in the next over for a boundary towards square leg.

In the next over, Amir flicks the ball easily through square leg for a boundary of Junaid.



South Africa were 39 for no loss after eight overs.

The skipper opted to introduce spin in the ninth over as Imad came to bowl.

The left arm spinner proved his captain right as trapped Hashim Amla plumb in front of the stump as South Africa lost their first wicket.

Hafeez was also introduced to the attack from the other end as he went for six runs in his first over.
