Summary English side opted to ball first after winning the toss at the Oval in the opening match CT 2017

LONDON (Dunya News) – It was an exemplary show of batting skills from one of the finest openers in modern day cricket that created frustrations for the English side just when the proceedings kicked off in the Oval for the opening match of Champions Trophy 2017.

Tamim Iqbal while playing shots all around the wicket helped Bangladesh in compiling a decent total and henceforth giving a fighting total to the bowlers in order to defend.

Overs 50, Score 305/6

Tamim had decided to cut loose as he was hitting boundaries one after another and if possible for a maximum whenever he was getting any opportunity. Meanwhile, Mushfiqur Rahim was also providing with necessary support as both the veteran batsmen were carrying one with the pro batting style.

After 35 overs, the score was 184 for the loss of two wickets. Mushfiqur Rahim reached to his fifty as he scored a boundary of the bowling of Root as while hammering one straight of mid-off.

In the next over bowled by Ball, Mushfiqur Rahim scored two consecutive boundaries in order to bring more pace to the score.



Tamim reached to his well-deserved fifty in the 39th over as both the batsmen were creating frustrations for the English side.

After 40 overs, Bangladesh were 223 for the loss of two wickets.

Immediately after the fortieth over, Ali came into ball as Tamim hammered him on the first ball of the over for a huge six over long-on.

In the next over bowled by Wood, Tamim took charge once again as he pummeled one away for another huge six over long leg.

Mushfiqur Rahim also took the charge on the forty fourth over as he hit trwo consecutive boundaries of the bowling of Ball.

The glorious innings of Tamim Iqbal came to an end when he was caught behind by Buttler of the bowling of Plunkett after scoring 128 runs.

On the very next ball, Mushfiqur Rahim got out as he was caught by Hales after scoring 79 runs however Plunkett missed his hat-trick while not been able to put the ball in the right path while bowling to Shakib.

Shakib Al Hasan scored two boundaries of the 46th over bowled by Wood however got out after scoring a quick innings of 10 runs of the bowling of Ball.

Sabbir Rahman was the last one to go as he was caught by Roy of the bowling of Plunkett in the last over. Bangladesh managed to score 305 for the loss of six wickets in the allotted overs.


Overs 30, Score 159/2

Moeen Ali was introduced after the fifteenth over as he conceded four runs in his first over. The English bowlers were not giving any chance to the Bangladeshi batsmen to free their arms as the scoreboard kept on ticking with a gentle pace.



 Meanwhile, Bangladesh also lost their second wicket as Imrul Kayes was caught by Wood of the bowling of Plunkett in the twentieth over when the score was 95.

Mushfiqur Rahim played a glorious shot in the twenty second over as the score also entered into triple for Bangladesh side.

Tamim took charge in the twenty fifth over bowled by Ali as he thumped one away for a huge six over long-off. In the next over, Tamim scored two consecutive boundaries in the next over of Liam Plunkett.

Mushfiqur Rahim and Tamim carried along as the score reached 150 for the loss of two wickets for Bangladesh in 28th over.

After 30 overs, Bangladesh were in a comfortable position as they were 159 for the loss of two wickets.


Overs 15, Score 78/1

After being asked to bat first at the Oval, the Bangladeshi openers started things slow as it seemed that they were judging the nature of the Oval pitch.

Soumya Sarkar took the charge in the fifth over as JT Ball for two consecutive boundaries in the fifth over in order to speed up the run rate.

Tamim also join the action as he pummeled one away for four more of the last ball of Wood’s next over.



After the first ten overs, the run rate was 3.60 however Bangladeshi openers were still on the crease.

The start of eleventh over didn’t bring some good news for the English side as Soumya Sarkar started to cut loose with two boundaries and a maximum henceforth fetching 16 runs from Ball’s over that was eleventh of the innings.

The man with the golden hand i.e. Ben Stokes provided the breakthrough as he removed Soumya Sarkar who was caught by substitute Bairstow after scoring 28 runs.

After 15 overs the score was 78 for the loss of one wicket.
